Todd Janota has been involved in the Goliad Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association ever since he moved to Goliad more than 30 years ago.

Janota is not bull riding or mutton busting; he's watching the event from afar, taking the rodeo in with his children.

"We're trying to live it and support it," said Janota, a member of the Goliad rodeo committee that helps put the rodeo together.

Friday will begin the Goliad PRCA rodeo, a three-day event that will include steer wrestling, team roping and bull riding.

"We enjoy rodeos," said Janice Urban, a rodeo committee member. "I love rodeos, but I've never been good enough to participate in one."

The event was nominated in 2013 for Rodeo of the Year in PRCA's small rodeos category, and Janota said he hopes others flock to Goliad to enjoy the rodeo.

"We have one of the few top open venues around," Janota said.
