Victoria Democrats prepare for November election

The Victoria County Democratic Party is gearing up for the upcoming November general election.

Running in local contested races are Ron Reyna for county judge, Jennifer Foster for county treasurer, incumbent Robert Cortez for county clerk and Jane Bernal for district clerk.

All the candidates share a common belief that putting Victoria families first is the best way to prosper and achieve economic development and to continue building business opportunities with a pro-jobs, pro-business agenda for Victoria County, according to a news release from the Democratic Party.

These candidates are committed to collaborate with the commissioners court, county department heads, higher education institutions, Victoria Economic Development Corp., business community, religious leaders, city of Victoria and Victoria Chamber of Commerce to promote a sound economic development agenda to market the Crossroads region as a viable destination and help foster the creation of good paying jobs for Victoria County residents, according to the news release.

Under the leadership of Reyna, Foster and Cortez, the party's pledge to Victoria County taxpayers is:

Support a strategic plan for economic development

Maintain a solid A+ bond rating

Expand and revise the bidding process for county services to ensure best value for Victoria County

Maintain a stable property tax rate geared toward growth and opportunity for all taxpayers

Manage the county budget in an open and transparent manner to maximize efficiency

Expand services from the Veterans' Service office for veterans and military families

Collaborate with medical field professionals, fire and law enforcement officials to improve medical services, mental health care and the safety and protection of county residents.

This slate of candidates is looking forward to the November election and will be working hard for every vote, according to the news release.
