A man who once volunteered at a Victoria church pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of possession or promotion of child pornography.

Joshua Almeida, 33, is already serving six years in federal prison after pleading guilty in December to possession of child pornography.

For this newer case, after he completes his six-year federal sentence, he will be transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he will begin to serve a 20-year sentence and then a 10-year sentence consecutively, Assistant District Attorney Johna Stallings said.

Almeida's case was set to go to trial Monday, but the parties came to an agreement.

"I think this sends a good message that our office will continue to take a serious stance toward child pornography, and any plea bargain cases will involve consecutive sentences when appropriate," she said, thanking law enforcement for its diligent work.

Almeida will have to register as a sex offender if he gets out of prison.

He was represented by Tali Villafranca, who could not be reached Wednesday for comment.
