Chic. Country. Elegant.

Three simple words inspire one's wardrobe for the annual Polo at McFaddin fundraiser for The Nave Museum. The problem, however, is the trio of words are subjective.

Imagine if I showed up in my prom dress and a pair of rhinestone cowboy boots - what would the fashion police say?

However, that's exactly what this California girl envisioned when she heard the phrase.

Unlike the Kentucky Derby, polo is a refined international sport where fashion goes beyond a big, floppy hat and is found in luxe fabrics, simple silhouettes and impeccable tailoring.

To help keep us all out of a costume and into something a little more practical, I combed the racks at a few local stores and found a look that embodies chic, country elegance as well as pulls from spring 2014 fashion trends.

The Look

PRINT: Bold prints are a big deal for spring 2014 fashion, and to keep your game-day look current, finding a floral print is the perfect way to incorporate the trend. This Chelsea & Violet floral border blouson maxi dress from the Peach Blossom collection cinched with a wide-belt allows you to dress up or dress down this look for another day. While the floral pattern isn't exactly bold, its subtleness allows you to go wild with accessories.

SHOES: A heel of any kind should be avoided at a polo match. Not only will the spike likely find itself lodged into the dirt, it also will take your look from preppy chic to Sunday best in a heartbeat. Instead, a muted wedge or simple sandal should be worn. These De Blossom Collection wedges are a perfect fit.

THE HAT: While any true southern belle is worth her weight in hats, one shouldn't be the focus of your look. Instead, it should serve a clear purpose of keeping you shaded with a wide brim and literally top your outfit off. Dillards has a huge collection of Kate Landry hats that go anywhere from simple and sweet to way over the top. Depending on how you play other accessories, you can go as crazy as you want. Just remember, you should be the focus, not your big, floppy hat.
