Dust off your capes. Golden Crescent Court Appointed Special Advocates is looking for superheroes to participate in its second annual 5K.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Park, near the Red River Street entrance. Registration is open until race day or can be completed online at goldencrescentcasa.org. Early registration for adults is $25 and $15 for children 17 and under. On-site registration for adults is $35.
Last year, a little more than 100 runners participated in the event, said Development Director Debbie Ramirez.
As of Wednesday afternoon, about 150 people were registered for Saturday's event.
"It's awesome that we have good support from our community," Ramirez said.
Golden Crescent CASA is a nonprofit organization that places adult volunteers with abused or neglected children in need of a court-appointed advocate. Currently, there's about 50 cases without volunteers.
A new class to train volunteers begins May 13 in Victoria and April 29 in Edna. Those interested can sign up on the group's website or call 361-573-3734.
