Getting To Know You was the program presented at the Victoria County Genealogical Society meeting by member Betty Trotter on March 10. She has done research in many states and several countries. Reading through census records, family Bibles, church records, newspapers and online resources can give you information about the person you are researching. She shared several good tips that reminded us that vital statistics are not the only important thing to look for in doing the history of a person.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Doris Obsta. All committee reports were approved. Some still need to pay their dues for 2014. The beginners' workshop had a good response with a waiting list. Plans for the 2014 seminar are being made, which will July 12.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 14 in the First Christian Fellowship Hall, 2105 N. Ben Jordan St. The program will be Louisiana Research, which will include information on the people that traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast and had to cross through Louisiana to get there.
Members are encouraged to come, and visitors are always welcome to come and visit.
