Best Holiday Event: Cuero's Christmas in the Park

Cuero's Christmas in the Park started 14 years ago.

Now, it has more than 240 lit scenes in a mile and a half long stretch that, in 2013, more than 23,000 cars drove past, said Mary Polansky, the publicity chairman for the event.

Readers voted it the best holiday event.

Polansky's favorite is the life-sized nativity scene. Every summer, the group replaces 50,000 to 60,000 bulbs in the scenes to keep things fresh.

"We do it as a labor of the love for the area," Polansky said. "We get people from Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and of course, Victoria. We appreciate everybody coming and all the comments. We love what we do."

The event is put on by the December Events Committee of the Cuero Economic Development Corp. They ask only for donations to keep the event running.
