Best Museum: The Nave Museum

The diversity and frequency of exhibits might have given the Nave Museum an edge this year, said Amy Leissner, executive director of the museum.

"In the spirit of all good acceptance speeches, I have to acknowledge the other local museums, Museum of the Coastal Bend and the Children's Discovery Museum," Leissner said. "We are always looking for ways to collaborate."

The museum's 435 members enjoy new, compelling exhibits every six to eight weeks, she said.

Six are planned for 2014, including shows by Amber Eagle, who is known for her art cars; the Art Car Parade and Festival; an urban-themed collaboration between Marilyn Jolly and Carlos Donjuan; Dia de los Muertos; and Sharon Kopriva's nature and religion-themed work.

Membership is $60 per year and includes admission to preview parties and exhibits. Donations of at least $125 per year also include invitations to private after-parties.
