Best Tourist Destination:
While some of the other beach towns cater to the college-age crowds, Rockport is more of a family environment.
"It's clean. It's safe. It's not crowded," said Chamber of Commerce president Diane Probst. "It's beautiful."
Perhaps this is why it won best tourist destination in the Advocate's Best of the Best competition.
The mile-long beach not only hosts the warm, calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, but also two pavilions, showers, tiki huts, cabanas, a playground, a jogging trail and a bird sanctuary.
Throughout the year, Probst said more than 30 different species of birds visit the sanctuary.
If you're looking for a weekend for the family, Probst said, "this is that calm, family type of environment."
