A vehicle lost control and struck a utility pole in the 3300 block of Miori Lane at 2:26 a.m. Friday, said Elgin Janssen, spokesman for American Electric Power Texas.

More than 2,000 customers in the area lost power as a result.

The 2005 Honda Civic, driven by Juan Guajardo, 24, was traveling west on Miori Lane at a speed exceeding 100 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle, said Victoria police Lt. Caleb Breshears.

The driver struck the median and a utility pole before a second utility pole brought the vehicle to a stop.

Guajardo and his passenger, Derek Guajardo, 24, were extracted from the Honda by the Victoria Fire Department. They were taken to Citizens Medical Center, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A citation was not issued Friday as the investigation is ongoing.

Janssen also had not yet received the final report.

Power was restored by 3:21 a.m. to all but two customers, whose power was restored about 9:30 a.m. after the pole was repaired, Janssen said.
