2 injured in crash on Houston Highway

Two people were taken to a hospital early Sunday after they were involved in a two-vehicle crash in the 5000 block of Houston Highway.
The crash, which was reported about 12:15 a.m., forced authorities to shut down several lanes of traffic near Houston Highway and John Stockbauer Drive.
The two taken to Citizens Medical Center suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said Victoria police officer David Reed.
The crash occurred when a 2004 Honda Accord, which had five occupants, was eastbound and attempted to turn left into a gas station, Reed said.
The Accord then struck head-on a westbound 2004 Chevrolet Aveo, he said.
The driver of the Aveo, Jose Limon, 43, and a backseat passenger of the Accord, Anna Darilek, thought to be 19 years old, were taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center. Both are from Victoria. Limon and Darilek were treated and released Sunday, a hospital representative said.
Reed said he was citing the driver of the Accord, Sergio Mendez, 22, of Victoria, with failure to yield the right of way and for having no driver's license.
Victoria police opened up all lanes of traffic just after 1 a.m.
