The man rushed to DeTar Hospital Navarro on Tuesday night after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole died.

Jerry Nagel, 52, of Mansfield, died of an illness unrelated to the crash, said Sgt. Jeff Strauss with the Victoria Police Department.

Nagel was driving north about 9:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of North Navarro Street. He lost consciousness, and his Buick LaCrosse veered into the southbound lanes before striking a light pole, Strauss said.

American Electric Power was called to check the pole, but no major repairs were required. No homes or businesses lost power as a result of the incident, said Elgin Janssen, spokesman for AEP.
