The woman accidentally shot by her boyfriend Monday afternoon was in stable condition Tuesday in a San Antonio hospital.

Victoria Police Department responded to a call to Citizens Medical Center about 1:30 p.m. about a woman with a gunshot wound. They learned the shooting occurred at a car wash in the 1800 block of Delmar Drive.

Police said she was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun as her boyfriend took it from the trunk of his car.

Desiree Sodia, 21, was stabilized at Citizens Medical Center. She was later flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she was recovering in the surgical center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Her 23-year-old boyfriend was not arrested, as officers believe the shooting was accidental, said Detective Tanya Brown, a Victoria Police Department spokeswoman.
