Years ago, I had the pleasure of announcing annual Little League baseball tournaments. One of those years I got to observe a really talented boy playing for Zone 2. He was, of course, an excellent ballplayer, making the All-Star teams. He was also a really fine young man - due in large part to his wonderful parents, Anna and Gary. It was always a pleasure to visit with them as I announced, and they followed their son Wesley in those Little League playoffs.
Now, this adventure is coming full circle. That little guy has grown into an excellent coach, and I'm so fortunate to still know him and call him friend, as well as his fine parents. In case you folks missed it - Wes Kolle's Victoria East Titans shocked the high school baseball world by taking down one of the state's premier baseball programs, the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans, in the current playoffs. Talk about an accomplishment. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say congratulations, Wes, on a great step for your program, a victory of which all of Victoria can be proud. I know with certainty that your folks are beaming with pride. No matter what happens from here on in these playoffs, your Titans have done themselves and our community proud. Knocking out Texas' No. 1 team is something of which you all will always cherish.
Best wishes Wes Kolle and Victoria East as you march on. You have indeed been "Jack the Giant Killer" in defeating Moody. Keep on truckin', Titans! Wish you all the best!
