Shiner advances to regional final against Weimar

SAN MARCOS - The Shiner softball team swept its Class 1A regional quarterfinal opponents Harper in two games Friday and Saturday at Texas State University.
Shiner won the first game 7-2 Friday night and 11-0 Saturday.
Cece Darilek pitched both games for the Lady Comanches (22-9), getting nine strikeouts, two walks and allowing nine hits total.
Shiner scored four runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth. Harper's two runs scored in the final inning and weren't enough to make a dent.
In Game 1, Tamara Hajek and Kassidy Bishop was 2 for 3, while Lauren Schutte was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Hannah Nevlud was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
In Game 2, the Lady Comanches started strong and didn't waver for a matchup that was shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Lady Comanches shut out Harper 11-0 in five innings with Hajek leading off with a home run to start the game off.
Sophomore Kori Landman followed up with a grand slam in the first inning. Shiner scored its first five runs before Harper had the chance to take the plate.
Julianna Rankin went 3 for 3, hitting two doubles and 3 RBIs. Schutte was 2 for 3 with one double and one RBI.
With this victory, Shiner will face district opponent Weimar in the Class 1A regional final series starting Friday at Texas State.
Shiner has lost twice to the 2013 state champion Weimar this season. Weimar defeated Port Aransas 6-0 in a one-game playoff Thursday night to advance.
