UHV senior Ashley Winegeart earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America Softball Team College Division first team after helping lead the Jaguars to a 33-15 season.
The Corpus Christi native is only the second UHV softball player to be named to the team. Jaguar assistant coach and former pitcher Emily Bergstrom was honored in 2012.
Winegeart started all 48 games this season, compiling a .416 batting average with 45 RBIs and 44 runs. The health care administration major hit 12 doubles, two triples and three home runs this season, along with 22 stolen bases.
In the four years Winegeart has been a Jaguar, the team has played in the NAIA championships three times. She was named to the Association of Independent Institutions All-Conference first team this year.
Overall, Winegeart has played 207 games and had 617 at bats and 205 hits since her freshman year.
