Patrick "Pat" J. Kennedy believes his experience will help him in his new position with Cuero.

He started May 12 as the new executive director of the Cuero Economic Development Corp. after retiring from Yoakum as the economic and community development coordinator.

"What's going on in Cuero right now was too good to pass up," he said. "Both personally and professionally, it was a wonderful opportunity."

He said his experience would help him expand on the growth that Cuero is seeing from the Eagle Ford Shale.

The economic activity from the oil field has made a big impact in the community, he said. The development group will be there to make sure it continues.

"I don't have the blueprint on what the future is going to hold," he said. "But I know who my customers are, and I try to take care of them."

Kennedy said one of his main goals with the economic development corporation is to build new relationships and nurture already-present partnerships to find the right businesses and activities for the community.

Cuero sees the same issues with job growth, housing and workforce training as other cities, and it's a matter of using the resources available to approach it, he said.

"I'm learning some new stuff, and that is exactly what I'm looking for," Kennedy said.
