Long-Term Care Activity Director Update set for June 6

The Long-Term Care Activity Director Update will last from 8 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. June 6 at VC Gonzales Center, Room 119, 424 E. Sarah Dewitt Drive in Gonzales.

This continuing education update is designed to update knowledge and skills related to therapeutic aspects of an activity program for seniors in all-care settings. Long-term care activity directors, activity director assistants, social workers and others interested in long-term care activities are encouraged to attend.

Attendees will learn to:• Identify the six dimensions of wellness

• Describe an activity that supports at least one of the six dimensions of wellness

Discuss implementation of a variety of therapeutic activities that assist in reducing inappropriate behaviors

Presenter Victoria Salter is a long-term care activity director and a Victoria College adjunct instructor. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree in therapeutic recreation from Texas Woman's University. She was named the therapeutic recreation specialist of the year in 1988. Salter formerly served on the board of directors for the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation and Activities Certification Inc.

The $50 registration fee includes instructional materials and lunch.
