Five Jaguars named to Southwest All-Region team

Five Jaguars have been selected for the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association's NAIA Southwest All-Region Team.
Senior Marley Moehrig, a Victoria native; junior Rachel Laird, of La Marque; and freshman Shelby Smith, of La Porte, were named to the first team.
Senior Ashley Winegeart, of Corpus Christi, and freshman Savannah Crittenden, of La Porte, were named to the second team.
Laird, named to the team as an outfielder, led UHV with a .564 batting average and a 45-game hitting streak that stretched over two seasons. She had 29 multi-hit games and a single-season high 92 hits. She also led the team in stolen bases with 43.
Moehrig, named to the team at third base, compiled a .419 batting average while leading the team in triples with five, home runs at 11 and RBIs with 62. Moehrig's slugging percentage was .787 with 65 hits, 44 runs scored and 14 doubles, according to a release.
Smith, who transferred to UHV over the winter semester break, was selected to the team at first base. She had a .482 batting average, 19 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 59 RBIs.
Winegeart finished her UHV career with a .416 batting average with 45 runs, 44 RBIs, 12 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 stolen bases.
Crittenden was 12-5 as a pitcher with a 2.34 ERA in the 22 games she pitched. She allowed 51 runs on 92 hits and 52 walks with 43 strikeouts in 110.2 innings, according to a release.
