Eight families were evacuated from their homes Tuesday when an oil well blew up.

No injuries were reported.

DeWitt County Sheriff's Office responded to the call about 1:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Kozielski Road, about 5 miles south of Westhoff.

Deputies coordinated with Devon Energy supervisors, according to a news release. Wild Well Control services responded to the scene to control the leak.

"As a precaution, evacuations were ordered in a 3-mile radius," the news release stated.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is in the area taking air samples, said Sgt. Carl Bowen, DeWitt County Sheriff's Office. The commission will provide updates as they become available.

Bowen said the erratic weather is a concern, and the sheriff's office will continue to monitor the situation.
