A bullying awareness rally previously postponed last weekend has been rescheduled for Aug. 16, said Dina Lester, Parents Against Bullying in VISD co-organizer.

But for community members interested in spreading bullying awareness next week, a candlelight vigil for victims of bullying is scheduled Wednesday at DeLeon Plaza downtown.

Gary Moses will lead the crowd with a prayer at the start of the event, Lester said.

"We're doing this because we want these kids to know before they leave school that we are fighting for them, and we have not forgotten," Lester said. "Just because it's the end of the school year doesn't mean it's the end of the fight."

Last week, the group protested the way the Victoria school district enforces and identifies bullying.
