Oceans For Emotions: God is with us even when we don't realize it

"But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus." - John 21:4

It's funny how a memory floods your mind. With the rain the other today, it flash flooded my soul as well.

My niece, Shannon, and I were at the beach planning our day. We were planning what fish we were going to catch and what our day was going to bring us. I can close my eyes and smell the salty air, feel the breeze and hear the seagulls (while Neil Diamond's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" songs were playing rather loudly in the car), and I can still feel that Jesus was with me then as He is every day.

We waded into the sea and waited to catch a fish. I knew at that moment that I was not alone. God must have laughed at our plans, for He grants us the pleasure of catching His fish, of smelling His air, for memories of seagulls and for the music.

When we were through fishing and were once again back on the beach, I sat in my lawn chair and thanked God for everything I am, for everything in my life and for everything that is yet to come.

Although I got sunburned once again and got sand on my pimento cheese sandwich, it was all worth it.

I knew then at that precious moment and still do today that God is with us, believes in us as we do Him and helps us. When we feel like we have nothing, God shows us we have everything - maybe not a fish but awesome memories.

Dear Lord, thank You for giving us the ocean to enjoy and for all of the beautiful blessings You give us each day. Thank You especially for being with us even when we don't always realize it.
