Seven Yoakum High School students recently completed the inaugural first responder class.
The class was a partnership between Yoakum school district and the Yoakum Economic Development Board with Victoria College providing the instructor.
The Economic Development Board provided funds for the class, including textbooks, while the school district provided the classroom. The students learned basic first aid, CPR and how to control bleeding and apply splints to broken bones.
The students will become certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as emergency care attendants upon successfully passing a national exam.
