There's still time to apply for admission to UHV
Dec. 24, 2016 at midnight
I've been thinking about applying to attend UHV, but until recently, I didn't think I would be able to attend. Is there still time to sign up for the spring semester?
Yes, you still have time to apply for admission to the University of Houston-Victoria and sign up for spring classes.
The final deadline to submit an application is Jan. 3, and spring classes begin Jan. 17. The application is free, and students can apply online at applytexas.org.
In addition to the online application, students need to have previous institutions send in transcripts. Students also will need to send in standardized test scores. Go to uhv.edu/apply to see a complete list of application requirements for freshmen, transfer students, graduate students or international students.
Once your application is accepted, you have the opportunity to apply for financial aid. More than 90 percent of UHV students receive financial aid. Although many resources are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, there is always a chance that some still might be available.
The first step in applying for financial aid is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. All forms of federal financial aid as well as certain scholarships, grants, work study programs and loans are based on the information included in the application. You can fill out an application at fafsa.ed.gov.
UHV has more than 70 degree programs and concentrations from which to choose, and more are being developed and added all the time.
The UHV School of Arts and Sciences offers degrees and concentrations in areas such as biology, computer science, creative writing, criminal justice, digital gaming and simulation, English, history, mathematics, petroleum technology, psychology, publishing and Spanish. The university recently began a partnership with Victoria College to offer three new humanities concentrations: art, music and theater.
In the UHV School of Business Administration, students can earn Bachelor of Business Administration or Master of Business Administration degrees. These programs include concentrations in popular areas such as accounting, finance, general business, healthcare administration, marketing, management and supply chain management. In the fall, the school added economics and international business concentrations for the bachelor's degree.
The UHV School of Education, Health Professions and Human Development has a variety of degrees and concentrations, including health studies, early childhood education, special education, English as a second language, kinesiology, counseling, adult and higher education, curriculum and instruction, administration and supervision and education technology. In the fall, the school began offering the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. In the spring, the school will add a Dyslexia Education Certificate for graduate students and two new areas of specialization for undergraduate kinesiology majors: exercise sports science and pre-allied health.
These are just a few of the possibilities students can pursue at UHV. Don't forget to apply by Jan. 3, and make your mark on your future.
