Occupation: Director of Bands, Victoria East High School
Why honored: "Compassionate," "spiritual" and "honorable" are just a few of the many words that would describe our teacher and band director, David Edge.
He doesn't wear a cape, but he inspires thousands with his love for music and his students.
He teaches us life lessons and pushes us to strive for more. Not only does he care about our music, he is interested in our well-being, wanting us to grow as a band family, and he encourages our education, wanting to see us succeed in our dreams.
He has touched many lives with his words and sincere caring. In fact, a few years ago I was practically homeless, and Mr. Edge helped guide me to making decisions about living with another band family.
He has made such a difference in my life that I wanted to honor him by giving my twin daughter his middle name "Leigh." Mr. Edge has helped me so much these past six years - naming my daughter after him was something I could do to honor his impact on my life.
And recently, the community has seen this through the gaining of his family's angel, the Jenica Leigh Edge Barnard Memorial Scholarship, which has been established through the VISD Education Foundation.
A husband, dad, uncle, band director, friend, father-like figure or whatever it may be, I believe we can all agree that Mr. Edge is one of the most caring people you could ever hope to meet.
To call him our Everyday Hero is an understatement. He truly has turned our lives around.
