Victoria residents Kathy Manning and Dorothy Rusch took part in the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday. Manning placed 13th with a time of 3 hours, 34 minutes, 17 seconds in the 55-59 age groups. Rusch placed fourth with a time of 4:02:39 in the 65-69 age groups.

"I'm so proud to represent Victoria and Texas," Manning said. "It means a great deal to me because Victoria has so many runners. I'm humbled to be here."

It was Manning's third time taking part in the Boston Marathon and her first since 2015.

"The atmosphere is wonderful because Boston is so supportive of this race," she said. "We go through so many small towns that showed us a lot of support and cheered us on."

Rusch has qualified for the run every year since 2010.

"This was my seventh Boston Marathon and there's nothing like running in Boston," Rusch said. "It was warm outside for the runners, but it was great for the spectators."

Rusch didn't take part in the 2013 marathon due to a family wedding. Terrorists attacked the marathon that year, killing three people and injuring several hundred others.

"I'm excited and happy

to do it for Victoria," Rusch said. "I love to run, and we have a lot of good runners in Victoria. I hope they all have the chance to run in Boston because its a exciting event. I feel honored to be there, and I'm hoping to be back next year."

NOTES: Geoffrey Kirui won the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday, pulling away from three-time U.S. Olympian Galen Rupp with 2 miles to go to give Kenya its first men's victory in five years.
