The Victoria County Treasurer's Office discovered a counterfeit $50 bill Monday morning.

The counterfeit, a washed $5 bill that was reprinted to appear as a $50, was received by the county's collections department, said County Treasurer Sean Kennedy.

The bill was discovered after a currency counting machine flagged it as suspicious.

The bill appeared "duller" than normal and "unclear," according to a Victoria County Sheriff's Office news release.

The counterfeit will be sent to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
