Hannigan named NAIA scholar athlete

UHV senior Reece Hannigan became the first UHV men's soccer player to earn recognition on the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete team on Friday.

Hannigan was recognized along with 492 other student-athletes as members of the 2017 men's soccer team.

Hannigan is a four-year member of the UHV program where he was twice named the Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. The Jaguars reached the confernece tournament all four years under his guidance as the defender finished his career with 18 goals and three assists. He is also the UHV all-time career leader in starts for the men's soccer program with 65.

This past season he helped guide the Jaguars to an 11-3-2 finished and their first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Tournament.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
