A man crossing the street on the way to a convenience store was hit by a car Monday evening near the intersection of Rio Grande and Main streets.

Antonio Cruz Santiago, 32, of Victoria, was crossing Rio Grande Street going south when he was hit by a sedan in the turning lane about 7:15 p.m., said Cody Maresh, Victoria Police Department patrol officer.

The driver of the sedan, Kelvin Thomas, 52, of Victoria, was headed west and was driving in the turning lane when he hit the pedestrian, Maresh said.

Santiago was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro with injuries that were not severe, Maresh said.

"He was conscious and breathing and complaining of leg pain," he said.

Police have yet to determine who is at fault, but the crash will most likely be found to be the fault of the pedestrian, Maresh said. No citations have been issued, and Maresh said he was unsure whether any would be issued.
