Hurricane Harvey forced me to miss starting classes in the fall at UHV. Is there still time for me to apply for the spring semester?

There still is plenty of time for you to apply for admission to the University of Houston- Victoria's spring semester.

The deadline to submit an application is Jan. 2, two weeks before classes begin Jan. 16, so you still have plenty of time to get started. The application is free, and students can apply online at www.applytexas.org.

If you've already completed the admissions process but had to delay your education because of Hurricane Harvey or any other reason, the process is especially simple. Just complete an Update to Admissions Application form online at www.uhv.edu/admissions/forms. Then, email UHV Admissions staff members at admissions@uhv.edu to let them know you plan to attend in the spring so they can help you make sure everything is processed and ready.

If you have partially completed your application and admissions process, or if you are applying for the first time, UHV will send you a link to create a MyUHV account, where you can see a complete list of steps you need to follow to be admitted to UHV. As you complete each item on the list, it will update so you can track your admissions progress.

As part of the application process, students need to have previous institutions send transcripts. Students also will need to send in standardized test scores. Different tests are required depending on if you are applying for undergraduate or graduate admission. Also, different graduate programs require different tests and documents such as admission essays or reference letters. Please check with your desired graduate program office to ensure you have everything you need for admission.

Once your application is accepted, you have the opportunity to apply for financial aid. Although many resources are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, there is always a chance that some still might be available.

The first step in applying for financial aid is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. All forms of federal financial aid as well as certain scholarships, grants, work study programs and loans are based on the information included in the application. You can fill out an application at fafsa.ed.gov.

As you send in your application and ensure you have everything ready, you can contact UHV Admissions for assistance through email or at 361-570-4110. Please keep in mind that the university will close for the holidays from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2.

We look forward to seeing you this spring!
