Bay City man arrested after attempted vehicle theft

An 18-year-old Bay City man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to steal a vehicle and escaping while being detained early Friday morning.

An officer responded about 3:30 a.m. to the 1900 block of 7th Street in reference to a stolen white Camaro, according to a Bay City Police Department news release.

Shortly after the initial call, dispatch received a call about a suspicious Camaro parked behind a building at a vacant home in the 1100 block of Avenue H.

When officers arrived, they noticed the vacant home had an open door and they found a person inside, according to the news release.

Devin D. Anderson, 18, of Bay City, was arrested. Officers also found ecstasy on him.

While at the police department, Anderson attempted to escape after using the restroom. but he tripped and fell because of restraints.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and escape while arrested or detained.
