A police chase in Bay City led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Bay City man Saturday morning.

An officer was patrolling about 4:25 a.m. in the 3100 block of Avenue F when she saw a maroon Chevrolet pickup traveling on the wrong side of the road, according to a Bay City Police Department news release.

Officer Donna Guanajuato attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop, according to the release.

The Chevrolet was traveling about 20 mph, jumped the curb and drove through the parking lot of the First Baptist Church.

The vehicle jumped another curb to re-enter the road and finally came to a stop in the 2200 block of 4th Street.

The driver was identified as Jonathan L. Carrera, 22, of Bay City.

He was transported to the Matagorda County Jail where he was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle; possession of a controlled substance, cocaine; driving while intoxicated with an open container; and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility.
