The holiday season will be in full swing this weekend with the Christmas in Downtown event in Cuero.

Now in its fifth year, "Christmas in Downtown" is hosted by the Cuero Main Street Program, a department of the city of Cuero. For the past several years, the program has transformed downtown Cuero into a holiday wonderland.

"People have told us that they like the feeling of an old-fashioned downtown - it feels like being inside a Norman Rockwell snow globe," said Main Street Manager Sandra Osman.

The event will begin Friday evening and will pick up again Saturday afternoon. There will be an ice skating rink, horse and carriage rides, and a carousel. New additions to the Christmas lineup include an additional castle bounce in the form of a gingerbread cottage, miniature golf, a snow resort ball pit, barrel ride, peddle train and a castle bounce in the shape of a giant gift. Additionally, there will be two photo opportunities with an "Elf Your Self" booth and a big red chair, Osman said. Another new major attraction is Millie's Candy Land.

Each attraction must be paid for in admission tickets, which can be purchased at the utility department at Cuero City Hall, 210 E. Main Street, Osman said.
