Dow Seadrift Operations will conduct a controlled burn of its wetland areas between Dec. 15 and Jan 15.

The exact days of the controlled burn will be determined by weather.

The specific time frame was chosen so it does not impact the nesting season for area birds that may use the wetlands.

Controlled burning is a safe, well-established method of managing wetlands and is the preferred method used by The Nature Conservancy and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, according to a news release.

The burn will be during daytime hours and will be managed to minimize impact to wildlife and the surrounding community. It is possible smoke may be visible during the time of the burning. Area law enforcement agencies will be notified on the time of the burn.
