The Calhoun County Treasurer, who manages an annual multimillion budget, is running for re-election.
Rhonda Kokena, 57, of Port Lavaca, filed with the Democratic Party on Monday.
Kokena has been in office since 2003 but has worked for the county since 1998.
In a written statement, Kokena touted her record of fighting for Calhoun County residents' financial interests.
She said she's improved the relationships of employees between county departments and has made juror cash payouts more effective for the taxpayers, as well as juror donations to a local child welfare, state crime victims and the local humane society.
The deadline to file for a place on the Democratic or Republican party ballots is Dec. 11. The primary elections are March 6.
