American Bank's 23rd annual Holiday Teddy Bear Drive is underway.

Donations of new stuffed toy bears will be accepted at any American Bank location through Dec. 29.

The bears will be used to decorate the Christmas trees in each branch during the holiday season before being donated to the following community agencies:

• Corpus Christi and Port Aransas: Women's Shelter of South Texas

• Austin: Mainspring Schools

• Rockport: Camp Aranzazu

• Victoria: Victoria Police Officer's Association

• Goliad: Goliad County Sheriff's Office.

Since the program's inception in 1995, the bank has collected more than 15,000 teddy bears for area community organizations.

The bears are given to women and children in need of comfort and to help rebuild their lives. American Bank was founded in 1970 and is the largest locally owned and independent financial institution in the Corpus Christi area, with assets totaling more than $1.2 billion as of June 30.
