Former Victoria East standout Ben Lake made it official Wednesday afternoon by signing a letter of intent to transfer to UHV to compete on the men's golf team.
Lake, who signed with Western Alabama University out of high school, said he's looking forward to bringing his golf career back home to Victoria.
"Competing here is going to be fun," Lake said. "I've competed here in Victoria before and I'm ready to compete here again. I have played with some of the (UHV) guys when I was in high school and they are a great group, and I look forward to competing with them again."
Lake qualified his junior and senior years in high school for the UIL Class 5A State Tournament and became the first East male golfer to qualify for state.
His junior year he finished tied for 62nd at state, posting a score of 91-78-169 before cutting that finish in half when he tied for 32nd.
He earned second-team all-state and first-team all-region honors and was academic all-district all four years in high school.
"It's exciting to have him as part of our team," said UHV coach Christi Cano. "I knew Ben before he reached out to me, and we are looking forward to having him with us. He should bring a positive impact to the team."
