Kenneth Schumacher said he was proud his business, Energy Waste, was awarded the Community and Social Investment award from The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable.

"We've won the STEER community service award for the fourth time in the last five years," said Schumacher, company part-owner. "We've always believed in being a good corporate citizen and helping out in all of our areas by helping out our nonprofit organizations."

The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable awarded eight Eagle Ford Shale oil industry companies with 2017 Eagle Ford Excellence Awards on Dec. 5. Energy Waste, Voestalpine Texas, Halliburton, R360 Environmental Solutions, Sun Coast Resources, Tierra Lease Service, Falls City Education Foundation and San Antonio River Authority are the recipients.

The awards honor companies and organizations working in or with the oil and gas industry for their efforts in protecting the environment, making safety a top priority and giving back to the community, according to a news release from STEER.

"Through the ups and downs of the oil and gas industry in the past few years, it's important to pause and honor companies that have remained focused on safety, environmental protection and community involvement," said Omar Garcia, president and CEO of STEER. "It's important, particularly in times like this, to persevere and stay true to your core principles."

This year, STEER also honored those who have shown exemplary work and support to the South Texas and Coastal Bend region in the face of the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, according to the news release. The companies and organizations that went above and beyond in emergency response and continued support in the region are Cheniere Energy, Port Corpus Christi, Ingleside Chamber of Commerce and Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce.
