Yoakum, Goliad players named first-team all-state

Yoakum had contributions from a number of players as it won the outright District 14-3A, Division I championship.

The Bulldogs went undefeated in district play and finished the regular season with a 9-1 record.

Yoakum went on to the state semifinals for the second consecutive season.

The Bulldogs' success helped three players earn first-team honors, and Goliad had one on the Associated Press Sports Editors Class 3A all-state team based on the regular season and released Monday.

Offensive linemen Conner Brandt and Silas Robinson from Yoakum and Chris Banks from Goliad were first-team picks along with Yoakum defensive back Jordan Moore.

Robinson, a senior who will sign with Arkansas on Wednesday, graded out at 98 percent, combined for 73 knockdown and pancake blocks and allowed one sack.

Brandt, a junior, graded out at 94 percent and combined for 59 knockdown and pancake blocks.

Moore, a senior who has committed to Texas A&M, had 73 tackles, six interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Banks, a junior, graded out at 97 percent and had 19 pancakes.

Yoakum senior Henry Enoch was a second-team selection on the defensive line.

Earning honorable mention on offense were Hallettsville receiver Jordon Brooks, quarterback DJ Taylor and running back Scooter Adams, Edna running back Kenny Haynes, Goliad quarterback Rocky Morris and Tidehavenrunning back Jeff Williams.

Receiving honorable mention on defense were Goliad lineman Logan Bland, linebacker Angel Hernandez, defensive back Nathan Oliver, Yoakum back Isaac Pope, Hallettsville linebacker Jaxon Reeves, Nixon-Smiley back Devin Hester and Edna punter Thomas Long.

DeKalb senior running back Jaquan Jackson was selected as the offensive player of the year, and Sabine junior linebacker Kobe Renfro was named the defensive player of the year.
