The Victoria Area Homeless Coalition is raising money to pay for hotel stays for the homeless on Christmas.

The coalition said in a news release Tuesday they are anticipating freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

President Lisa Griffin said that should temperatures drop below freezing, or 32 degrees, the coalition is preparing to help homeless in need of shelter by providing hotel assistance.

"We have generous shelter volunteers but understand that most in our area have plans to gather with family during the holidays," she said.

A room for two days is $126 and the coalition is committed to helping with at least five rooms.

As of Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecasts a low of 33 degrees on Christmas Eve.

The coalition is accepting monetary donations at Mid-Coast Family Services office at 111 N. Liberty.
