Merry Christmas and happy holidays. What a great year it has been for the Victoria Chamber of Commerce.
It sure has flown by at a fast pace. Seems like only yesterday we were at the Annual Membership Banquet. But boy, has it been a year.
The chamber has had a great year. From starting off with our annual membership banquet to ending the year with our annual awards luncheon, we have had an exciting time. Let's look at some of the highlights.
This year, we were able to welcome 91 new members to the chamber with the help of our recruitment team captains, Casey Staudt, Wes Hendrix, Lynda Parma and Lisa Hernandez. Their teams did a wonderful job of telling the chamber story and bringing in new businesses to the chamber.
The chamber launched our Victoria Friendly Certified Customer Service Training Program this year. Since August, we have trained more than 400 people from 27 companies.
We are looking forward to expanding it in 2018. If your company is interested in this low-cost certification program, give us a call at 361-573-5277, and we will be glad to set you a date for training.
The 2017 South Texas Transportation Conference brought participants from all over the state to hear presenters talk about the Texas bullet train, Texas ports, autonomous vehicles and ride sharing. The conference has grown over the years under the leadership of Transportation Committee Chair Ben Galvan. We hope for the event in September 2018 to be bigger and better than ever.
Finally, we couldn't talk about 2017 without mentioning Hurricane Harvey. This year marks my 10th year with the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, and I can say that I have never been prouder to lead this organization as I was in the aftermath of the hurricane. Watching as our business community banded together to provide material, space and technology to fellow business members was inspiring. We watched and were able to help our members get the supplies and services they needed to get back up and running. Members like Zarsky Lumber, H-E-B, D.E. Web Works, AEP and many others stepped up and were there for our community.
As we come to the end of 2017, I want to thank you for all you do for Victoria. We are blessed to live in a community that really cares about neighbors. Sometimes we disagree with each other, but when the chips are down, time and again, we pull together to build a better community.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
