A thousand brightly colored balloons will be dropped on the crowd after children and their parents countdown to noon on New Year's Eve.

The Children's Discovery Museum will host its fifth annual Princess and Superhero New Year's Eve Bash starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The event is designed to allow children and their families to celebrate the coming new year together in an inspirational atmosphere that inspires new ideas, according to a news release from the museum.

Children can come dressed as their favorite princess or superhero.

The celebration will begin with a "top it yourself" waffle bar breakfast at 10 a.m.

The event will feature an appearance by Ziggy the Clown and Oboe, a project with the Mid-Coast Texas Master Naturalists, special stations presented by Trinity Episcopal School and presentations by Curtis Short of Formosa.

The festivities will wrap up at 1 p.m. as the Children's Discovery Museum ends its first year at its new location.

"There's so few things done for children for New Year's Eve," said Toni Ross, museum manager. "This is a way for children to embrace the new year and enjoy a family event."
