Two local fire departments responded to a structure fire after a property owner set fire to an abandoned home on his property Thursday evening.

Victoria County Fire Department and Quail Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call about a house fire at about 5 p.m. Thursday at the 300 block of U.S. 77 Business toward Refugio.

The building was an old abandoned house that had sustained damage from Hurricane Harvey, said Victoria County Fire Marshal Richard Castillo. The new property owner, in attempt to clean his property, set fire to the old house.

"He didn't realize he couldn't burn it," Castillo said.

The property owner was given a warning, he added.

The name of the property owner was not available Thursday evening.

No one was in the building and no injuries were reported.
