Jaguars sign Edinburg standout

Edinburg North standout Jaqueline "Jackie" Longoria has signed a letter of intent to play softball for UHV in 2018.
The Edinburg North senior has helped guide the Cougars to three straight district championships and a berth in the Class 6A Region 4 semifinals this past season. The 5-foot-2 right-handed pitcher/middle infielder has anchored the Cougars' pitching staff since her freshman year while also being recognized for her performances throughout her three-year career.
As a junior, Longoria was named the All-Area Valley player of the Year, the District 31-6A All-Around District MVP and was selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State first team.
She compiled a 27-8 record with eight shutouts and a 1.63 ERA, while also setting school records for batting average (.521), hits (68) and runs scored (52), this past season.
As a freshman, she was named the Edinburg North Newcomer of the Year as well as the All-Valley Newcomer of the Year. She also earned recognition as an All-District 30-5A pitcher.
As a sophomore, she was named the Co-Defensive MVP at Edinburg North and the 31-6A All-Around District MVP.
In three seasons, she has compiled a 55-14 record with a 1.70 ERA with 36 complete games and 18 shutouts. She has struck out 345 and walked 55 in 434.1 innings.
At the plate, she has compiled a .457 batting average with 132 hits, 56 RBI, 94 runs, 19 doubles and three triples.
