Goliad, Shiner 4th in Lone Star Cup standings

AUSTIN - Goliad and Shiner tied for fourth in their respective classifications in the 2016-2017 UIL Lone Star Cup Standings released Monday.
The Lone Star Cup recognizes high schools based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships.
Goliad won a girls volleyball state championship, advanced to the girls basketball state tournament and compiled 52 points in the Class 3A standings.
Shiner advanced to the state tournament in softball, and the girls finished second at the state track and field meet and had 54 points in the Class 2A standings.
Weimar, a district opponent of Shiner, tied for seventh in the Class 2A standings with 48 points, and Refugio tied for 22nd with 36 points.
Industrial tied for 25th in the Class 3A standings with 34 points.
Moulton tied for 24th in the Class 1A standings with 28 points.
This year's Lone Star Cup winners were The Woodlands in Class 6A, Highland Park in Class 5A, Argyle in Class 4A, Wall in Class 3A, Sundown in Class 2A, and Nazareth in Class 1A.
