Marshall Skinner is not a stranger to home run derbies.

Skinner won a home run hitting contest at Blinn Community College.

The Victoria Generals catcher made it 2-for-2 when he won the home run derby at this week's Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game in Bryan.

"I hit eight total," Skinner said. "I ended up kind of walking off the last round, and it was kind of fun. It was a fun deal."

Skinner didn't add to his home run total, but he did double and had two hits as the Generals captured a 9-2 win over the Texas Marshals on Saturday night at Riverside Stadium to sweep the two-game set.

The Generals hosted Bark at the Park Night and showed they weren't dogging at the plate by getting 12 hits and overcoming a 2-1 deficit by scoring eight runs in their final three at-bats.

"We're playing pretty well," Skinner said. "We're getting a lot of barrels right now and stuff is falling for us. Sometimes you get a lot of barrels and they don't fall. We're just getting a lot of hits and efficiently making runs."

The late offensive burst made a winner out of Pedro Garcia, who had eight strikeouts in his six innings of work.

Sean McGrath pitched three innings of hitless relief to earn the save.

The Marshals used five pitchers, who all pitched in the sixth inning, and they issued nine walks.

The Generals made them pay with a two-run single by Connor Stevenson and a two-run double by Darian Simms.

Donnie Perez added a two-run home run for the Generals' final runs in the eighth inning.

The Generals will have two days off before going on a six-game road trip.

They return to Riverside Stadium on July 17 to face the Texarkana Twins.

"We want to get quality at-bats and try not to get complacent," Skinner said. "We want to try and get better."
