Generals drop series opener to Bombers

The Victoria Generals lost a 5-2 Texas Collegiate League decision to the Brazos Valley Bombers late Saturday night at Riverside Stadium.

The Generals (10-9) have now lost three consecutive games.

The Generals jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly from Glen McClain (1-for-3, RBI) in the bottom of the first inning.

Zac Leigh, a Victoria East graduate, had a solid outing on the mound with seven strikeouts, in 72/3 innings of work for the Generals.

Leigh retired nine Bombers in a row in the game.

The Bombers (14-5) scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Allonte Wingate and Chase Calabuig hit back-to-back RBI singles.

The Bombers made it 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth after a double steal attempt, and they added two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the win.

Generals catcher Marshal Skinner, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Bombers' lead to three.
