Generals split with Bombers

Zac Leigh picked up his second win of the season as the Victoria Generals defeated the Brazos Valley Bombers 3-1 in a Texas Collegiate League game Wednesday night at Riverside Stadium.
With the win, the Generals (16-12) ended the Bombers' five-game winning streak and evened the two-game homestand.
Leigh, a Victoria East graduate and current Texas State Bobcat, had a solid outing, giving up one earned run on seven hits with nine strikeouts, in 62/3 innings of work for the Generals.
Leigh had a strikeout in every inning except the first inning.
The Generals scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on an error and an RBI single by Donnie Perez. Perez went 2-for-4 with a two RBIs to lead Generals.
Perez came up with another clutch at bat in the bottom of the fifth. After a double play, the Generals had runners on first and second base with two outs, then Perez hit an RBI single to score center fielder Darien Simms to take a 3-0 advantage on the Bombers.
Simms went 1-for-3 while scoring two runs with one stolen base for the Generals.
The Bombers' (19-7) lone run came in the top of the seventh inning on a passed ball.
Garrett Alexander, who came in relief in the seventh, picked up the save and had three strikeouts in his 21/3 innings of work for the Generals.
The Generals will hit the road and open a two-game series against the Bombers that begins Thursday.
