Aubri Hockenbury and Andrew Gross were named the 2017 UHV Athletes of the Year on Monday during the annual UHV athletic awards banquet in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV North Building.

Hockenbury tied the UHV single-season home run record of 15 as she and her teammates prepare for the postseason.

Through 47 games, she led her team with a .393 batting average, 15 home runs, 52 RBIs, 114 total bases and a .786 slugging percentage. She shared the team lead with 57 hits and 10 doubles.

It is the second straight Athlete of the Year award for Gross, who picked up where he left off last season.

After a record 22 home run season last year, he came into the season as a NAIA Preseason All-American and did not disappoint as he tied the UHV career home run mark of 38 with 16 round trippers this season.

Other Player of the Year awards went to junior Emily Lupton in women's soccer, senior Shelbi Vincent in women's golf, junior Reece Hannigan in men's soccer and junior Cristian Esparza in men's golf.

Newcomer of the Year awards went to Kelsey Tidrick in softball, Bianca Galindo in women's soccer, Viviana Yzquierdo in women's golf, Isaac Ramirez-Garcia in men's soccer, Chase Tamez in baseball and James Rollins in men's golf.

Champion of Character awards for display of the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program went to Michelle Revels in softball, Caroline Carvajal in women's soccer, Yzquierdo in women's golf, Nelson Castro in men's soccer, Andrew Richards in baseball and Adrian Saenz in men's golf.
