UHV's Gross selected as conference's top player

WACO - UHV's Andrew Gross was named the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year in baseball.

Gross, a senior from Alvin, was a repeat selection on the all-conference first team at first base.

Gross finished the season with a team-leading .404 batting average.

He was the team leader in runs (41), hits (63), doubles (13), home runs (16), total bases (124), slugging percentage (.795), walks (40) and slugging percentage (.533).

He struck out just 13 times in 156 plate appearances, drew 12 intentional walks and committed just four errors in 303 chances for a .987 fielding percentage.

Gross' 16 home runs led the conference and allowed him to tie the UHV career record of 38.

Gross also led the conference in slugging percentage, home runs per game, total bases per game and total bases.

He tied for second in walks, was No. 3 in RBIs per game, No. 4 in batting average, and was tied for fourth in RBIs.

UHV pitcher Andrew Richards, a freshman from Richmond, was named to the RRAC's Champions of Character team.
